The Importance of Defining Your Customer base

marketing planIn order to succeed in the long term, you need to have a clear understanding of where your customers or stakeholders are spending their time. This is why you should define your customer base. For example, let’s say you sell a product called ‘Free Gifts’. However, your primary customer group is clearly going to be the people who are actually buying your product. Define ‘Free Gifts’ so that you know who you’re targeting. You can do this by creating a customer persona that describes who your customers are and how they spend their time. A basic example of customer persona can be found in the following diagram:

What is a Marketing Plan?

marketing planMarketing is the process of creating and communicating a brand’s story to a target audience. It includes creating awareness around your brand and/or product, and it also includes marketing campaigns that are meant to bring more people into your fold. Marketing plans are usually broken down into phases. In the early days, you will probably only focus on building your brand awareness. As your business grows and your product/services start to gain traction, you will shift your efforts to Increasing Customer orders and sales. By this point, you should have a solid understanding of your target market, identified their pain points and developed a plan to solve them. You might want to consider conducting consumer research to discover their buying behaviour, and target products that they are likely to buy from. You might also want to start testing out different ad formats, such as ads on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, to determine which works best for your target audience.
